City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments series, final book) by Cassandra Clare

So this is the final book in this series. and it was a pretty good finale.

For anyone who doesn’t know the story, it’s about this girl named Clary Fray who finds out she is a shadowhunter. the series follows her and her friends, both shadowhunter and other. the final book picks up where the previous one left off, and we find that the big war is coming.

I was worried how this final book would turn out, but I really liked it in the end. It had everything I like in books. some romance, action, humor, a little dark. it was pretty dark and often times i was concerned that it would not end well. but it did and i was quite happy with it. I won’t lie, it is a bit sad at times (you will see why when you read it).

overall if you are a fan of this series you won’t be disappointed. or maybe you will. but I wasn’t. if your new to the series, read the others first. otherwise you may not understand whats going on.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

as with alot of things I read, I read good things about this book. So, I decided to read it for myself.

The story is simple. weird girl and a not so popular guy go from not talking to being in love. and of course there are obstacles in the way. I guess its a modern day Romeo and Juliet type of story. only don’t worry, no one dies.

I’m not really sure how I feel about this book. It was good, yes; the main characters sort of reminded me of John Greens characters sometimes. it was mostly in how they spoke. if there was one thing I didn’t like it was at how fast Eleanor and Park fell in love. one minute they really don’t like each other. they don’t even talk. the romance started off ok, with Park slowly warming up to her and vice versa. but then they go quickly from warming up to one another to “I love you so much”. I just felt it moved so fast.

overall I would say if you are interested in reading this book, for whatever reason, go for it. it was an easy read, and was cute.

The Delirium series By Lauren Oliver

I had heard this was a good series and I finally decided, after trying to decide what to read, to read this. I don’t know why I didn’t read it sooner.

The story is pretty simple. It takes place in a future where Love is declared a disease. everyone at a certain age gets cured of it. but there are some who rebel, or who are not fully cured (the cure didn’t really work for them).

I did enjoy this series alot. It is a typical dystopian society book but what made it different from the others is the fact that love is a disease. The author did a nice job at making that concept believable, at least to me. I don’t think love would ever actually be declared a disease but I do think it can drive people to do crazy things and act so irrationally sometimes.

there is one thing that bothered me about this series. It’s the way it ended. it just felt kind of incomplete to me.

overall, i’d recommend this book. it’s an easy read and is pretty interesting.

The Splintered series by A.G. Howard

So far there are two books in this series; Splintered and Unhinged. the story is a sort of re-imagining of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. It is about a girl named Alyssa who is a descendent of The Alice. all the women in her family have gone crazy because of this supposed “wonderland curse”. her mother is in an asylum because of it and Alyssa has begun to hear bugs talking to her so she fears she is going crazy too. she discovers that her mother and all the others may actually not be crazy so she decides to search for the truth about the curse.

I notice I’m not so good at describing plots. I think it’s mostly because I don’t want to spoil things for people too much. but anyway…

I really, really like this series. the charatcers are interesting, the story is interesting and everything you thought you knew about wonderland, well It’s going to surprise you. Be warned though, it is darker than one imagined it would be. A.G. Howard does a good job at re-imagining wonderland. A third book is coming and I for one can not wait to read it.

If your looking for a good twist on the Alice in Wonderland story, then I recommend this series.
